Review: Clinique Smart Custom Repair Serum

Hey guys, I love trying out new skincare and I've been using this for about 2 months now so think it's time for a review.

What I say:

I used this not expecting much to be honest as aging isn't one of my main concerns but thought 'hey I'll just it as 'insurance' for my skin' if you like. After about a week of using this (on a night generally) I actually forgot to put foundation on - it wasn't till I finished my make up I realised I hadn't applied any base (VERY unlike me) I couldn't believe it my skin actually looked good enough to go foundation less! It must have been doing something. Then to top it off a few nights later after taking my make up off before bed and doing the whole skincare routine, I went to get into bed and my boyfriend said are you not taking your make up off before you go to bed!!?? What!! Now let me start by explaining first that he's very much your typical bloke and doesn't even notice when I change hair colour never mind not removing my make up before bed. I asked if he was joking and told him I'd just washed my face. He then said 'wow your skin looks really nice like make up' (very blokey thing to say). Well that comment alone sold this product to me and I will 100% be repurchasing after this runs out only I'll be going for the large size next time!  

This serum would be suitable for a lot of skin types. In particular I think this would be a fab starter serum for someone who doesn't know where to start in the world of serums as it targets each different personal skin concern. It 'knows' your skin and targets problem areas that you're not even aware of yet hence why this is a 'SMART' serum. I would work well under your usual moisturiser therefore it just slots right into your routine easily. I love the fact it targets a range of skin problems, it just makes it a multi tasker in it's own right.

The consistency is almost gel like and it instantly absorbs into the skin, I never notice a residue left on my skin which is perfect as I'm more on the oilier side, it does leave a nice velvety finish on the skin and would be suitable for all skin types. A very oily skin may want to skip using this on the mornings and just save for evenings but personally I've worn it under moisturiser and make up and it sat beautifully.

All in all I really recommend this serum and feel most skins would benefit from using this, if you have a few concerns you want to target and don't want to buy separate products then this is the serum for you, I also think this is just perfect for a persons first serum and it targets the majority of skin complaints.

There's no doubt that I'll be using this serum in for a long time and will certainly be stocking up.

Harvey Nichols Leeds: Charlotte Tilbury Pop Up Counter

Wow! Harvey Nichols have really pulled it out of the bag with this one. The Charlotte Tilbury counter is a first for Yorkshire - in fact it's a first in the North! Harvey Nichols Leeds has managed to snap up an exclusive as no other Harvey Nichols store stocks it yet... Ooo err! 

I wish I'd have taken more pictures because the pop up counter looks so inviting and fun. The counter is temporary until 28th August - the permament will be available on the 29th. The pop up counter serves as a teaser, as at the moment you are only able to purchase the miracle cream and the wonder glow primer - although the wonderful girls will treat you to an eye look of your choice just to tease us even more. You also have the opportunity to be booked in with one of Charlotte Tilbury's backstage make up artists (on selective days). The whole line will be rolled out when the permanent counter arrives on the 29th.

The make up is absolutely beautiful and the packaging is just screaming to be left on your dresser for all to admire. I'm looking forward to the new counter arriving so I can go treat myself to a whole host of goodies... Watch this space!!

Recent Favourites #6

Since I've been making an effort to stop buying so many different thungs I've been sticking to products longer and growing somewhat of an attachment to them too - I'm clingy that way :) so here's a little list of a few of them recent favorites..

ESPA Foam Bath £18

This was actually in a goodie bag received from the #leedamaymeet in May and I used it almost straight away. It is absolutely gorgeous, the packaging is divine to start with and the product it's self is so luxurious. I won't go too much into detail as I am writing a full product review. But yeah it's a winner for me.

Kheils Skin Rescuer £29.50 30mls

I actually bought this in January and only just ran out. It's a lovely product and a little goes a long way, it is only 30mls which is no different to most creams but yet has lasted me considerably longer. I think I might do a full review of this as it's really lovely and I haven't seen much about it so far.  I also featured this in my Night Routine post here. 

Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage £26.50

Is it any surprise that concealer is on of my recent favorites? I have been using this product a lot recently and because it comes with the darker shade, means I can use it when I've caught the sun (or used fake tan) lol. This has to be one of my favourite concealers, and I'm a bit obsessed with base products. 

YSL Rouge Pur Couture #27 £25

I don't know why but I've found a new love in YSL lipsticks recently. I love the formula, the lasting power and of course, the colour range. Number 27 has been the colour of the month for a few months now lol. If you haven't tried YSL lipsticks before I strongly suggest you look at them if you want a treat, you won't be disappointed I swear. I've included a picture to show the colour.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water £4.99

I know! Total blogger buy or what!? But it was on offer in boots a while back for practically nothing so thought hey what's to lose? Turns out I love it! It's fab for a quick refresh or every now and again when I'm in a rush (to get to bed) I don't use this everyday just every so often and would recommend to anyone whose on the look out to try one - and I've tried all the big name one's too by the way.. This is actually on offer here at boots for £3.99 right now.

Illamasqua Brow Cake in Thunder £15.50

I used to be an avid benefit Browzings fan and I still am - however for every day I've been reaching for this more and more. I find it much quicker and don't bother with a pencil when I'm using this either.

Nars The Multiple in Orgasm £30

How gorgeous is Nars packaging? I love it - although wish it wouldn't get as dirty as it does. Anyway I purchased this as I wanted something quick and easy to plonk on in a rush and this does just the trick. I like this when I'm in a rush as don't need a separate blush, highlighter or brush for that matter! A must have for me. I've added a picture so you can see the gorgeous colour too

Monthly Edit: The August Wishlist

August? The Eighth month? I cant believe I'm writing that.. This year is flying by and isn't slowing down any time soon is it? So August is here which means it's almost the end of the Summer Boo!! - but also means Fashion Week is almost upon us so lets face it that's what we're all waiting for really? No? Just me??

 So what am I lusting after this month? Scroll down to see...

Clarisonic Mia £125 - I've been lusting after this for years now and I'm seriously considering a purchase soon - does anyone. Rate or hate? I'd love to heart your thoughts although I still really want one haha.

Charlotte Tilbury Make Up - I just want the entire line, in particular the sophisticate palette and every single lipstick. Hoping to dive in and buy a few bits is month week!

Warehouse Trench Coat £85 - I love a trench and think it's a wardrobe staple and this one is am instant classic. I love how you can dress them up and keep them casual. This trench will be my season buy for the impending Autumn.

Tods Driving shoe £255 - I know these look a little bore for some people but I love them, I think they look so classic and perfect for down time or rushing around the city. I'd pair with jeans and my trench for off duty cool  or rock it up with a trusty leather jacket

Valentino Heels £620 - Ahh what Wishlist wouldn't be complete without some serious shoe porn!? I absolutely love these and if I had £620 to spare I'd have these in a heartbeat swoooon!

Warehouse print jacket £42 - In love with this print - perfect little pop on jacket to bring something new to an outfit. This would be something I'd get loads of wear out of even all the way through winter too.

Alexander McQueen Clutch £1345 - Hey! It's my Wishlist so I'll dream big thanks :) Yeah I doubt I'll be purchasing this in August but it will be forever on my Wishlist until I have one in my possession. Every fashionista worth her salt has one of these on her wish list or in her collection. Love!

Topshop Floral Monochrome Dress £55 - How cute is this little dress - would look fab with those Valentino's (finding the excuses!?) this would be a lovely date night outfit or a glam night out outfit.

That sums up my Wishlist for this month - I could have done an entire one just on make up to be honest as my beauty wishlist is huge at the moment. Watch this space!

Skincare: Night routine

After a rest from blogging after having Sienna I have decided to come back into it, I was umming and ahhing whether to start it back up but in all honesty I really missed blogging for just blogging, you know what I mean? So here goes I thought my first post back should be a beauty one and since sleep has recently become so important to me I feel this post is quite relevant :)

We all know we should take our make up off at night and slap on some moisturiser and get some shut eye, right? Now, I know there will be loads of people out there that give their faces and swift wipe of a baby wipe and call it a night for their nightly routine - I'm here to try and convince you to stop doing that. Please. 

So here's my routine and what I'm using at the moment - if you want individual reviews of anything in particular let me know. 

Step One: Take that make up off - I'm using The Body Shop Chamomile Silky Cleansing Oil £10.00 at the moment. Even if you do nothing else, always remove your make up or sunscreen. If you just wash your face without  previously taking your make up off then it's just like getting in the shower with your clothes on - pointless. Take it off so you can actually cleanse your skin. You don't have to use anything fancy to remove it either. One of my favourite make up removers is Lush ultrabland cleanser used with a (clean) muslin or flannel - it's cheap and effective.  

Step Two: Cleanse - So yeah that's pretty much self explanatory really. After step one I cleanse my face. I'm not particularly loyal to any cleansing product (yet!) at the moment I'm using an origins cleanser which is really lovely actually - foams up nicely which I personally like although I know some people prefer cream cleanser which is fine. I like to use a muslin or flannel to wash my face at this point although sometimes I use it at step one instead - just to switch things up- I'm all about the spice of life. Step Three: Exfoliate (sometimes) - Now I say sometimes as I don't always use a manual exfoliant but when I do this is the point in which I do it. By using a muslin or flannel in the previous steps you will be gently exfoliating every day bear in mind. Once a week/fortnight/whenever I can I will also do a face mask at this point. The two exfoliants I'm using at the moment are Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant £41.30 (although you can find it cheaper on sites like lookfantasic.com when they have offers so shop around) and Origins Modern Friction £33 pricey but so worth it. Another favourite is the Clinique Exfoliating Scrub £17

Step Four: Tone (sometimes) - Here I go with the sometimes again!.. I say sometimes because I generally don't tone if I've exfoliated manually as it's made my skin sensitive in the past so I'm wary of it now. I switch between toners and toning lotion type products where I feel necessary. At the moment I'm using Origins United State £18.50 at the moment but before that I was using Origins A Perfect World which was more of a lotion type product and it was gorgeous - I would have used this product after exfoliating as it was so gentle. I also love the Boots Botanics rose water toner, it's gorgeous - in fact I haven't used that in forever so I'm hoping it hasn't been discontinued.

Step Five: Serum/Oil/Treatment - Choose your poison and go for it. I'm a big fan of Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair so usually have a bottle of this one the go. Currently though I'm testing out the new Clinique serum and so far so good (watch this space for a review) if you're on treatment from the doctors or dermatologist here is where I'd apply it. 

Step Six: Eye cream - I like to plonk on eye cream after my treatment, I feel like the treatment might creep towards my eye area and give me some added boost lol. Am I the only one? I personally like to use eye cream as I wear contacts and I'm constantly touching my eye area so I'm convinced I'm going to have really bad wrinkles soon. I'm using the Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream £32 at the moment - I will be doing a review on this soon as I've been using it for a while now. 

Step Seven: Moisturise - Wow Seven!? I didn't realise I did so much, although two of the steps are usually missed out at times. Does that make it any less long? Lol no? Ok. So, moisturising, this is  for me so important to get right for your skin. It's amazing how much difference a good moisturiser make  can do for your skin. I like to switch up the moisturiser and use different brands/formula's depending on what's going on with my skin. I've been using Khiels Skin Rescuer Moisturiser £29.50 and Neal's Yard Power Berry £23.75. I have used the Neal's Yard moisturiser for about 5-6 years now and it definitely my most repurchased cream, the Khiels cream is one that I bought in January and I alternate between the two. It's almost run out now after all this time so I would say its value for money too. 

Step Eight: Sleep! Oh yes sleep, sleep and sleep - get your monies worth out of those products and let them get to work. Eight hours of shut eye if you can please - easier said than done or what? 

So there you have my night time routine - it looks so long up here but it honestly takes me 5-10 mins max depending on what I'm doing, obviously a face mask takes longer.

Monthly Edit: The February Wishlist

February has come around so quickly don't you think!? With Valentines and my Birthday, February is definitely my favourite month.. Not to mention London fashion week! Anyway I've just been playing away with making sets and thought I'd share with you one I made of a wishlist :) 

Expect to see many of these now that I've discovered the joy of making sets lol..

1. Forever 21 make up bag £5.65 - The I need lipstick sums up my make up collection pretty perfectly so when I saw this I thought 'perfect'.

2. Alexander McQueen tote bag £840 - Ahh a girl can wish! This bag is even new mummy appropriate with a enough room for Mum and Baby essentials so really when you think of it, it's a bargain really. You could even call it an investment? Just need the other half to agree.

3. Sophie Hulme shirt £295 - I am a massive fan of Sophie Hulme. Her simple yet classic designs mean that many of her pieces are timeless, again you could even call them investment pieces lol (can you see a pattern here?) 

4. YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick £25 - I already own a couple of these and the quality is fantastic, non drying and a dream to apply. I have 3 on my current wishlist. 

5. Alexander Wang skirt £415 - I think this skirt would look fab with the shirt and in fact most tops I own would look gorgeous with this skirt. However with the price tag I might have to wait or look on the high street instead. At least I would have more money left over to spend on lipstick! :) 

6. Sophie Hulme Purse £240 - I think this is my favourite item on my wishlist. I adore pink for a start and obsessed with Sophie Hulme too. Gorgeous and practical. Brilliant!

7. Alexander McQueen Skull Butterfly Necklace £195 - I love Alexander McQueen and especially the jewellery. This necklace is feminine yet bold I also love the ring to match. 

So there you have it. A little wishlist for February. Don't be surprised to see a Birthday and Valentines edition as I'm working on them right now lol.

Review: Miracle Bump Creme and Oil*

Miracle Bump contacted me a little while back and asked of I'd like to try their products and to be honest I jumped at the chance to try their products after looking into the company. Right from the beginning of my pregnancy I have being using products to avoid and minimise stretch marks so it was certainly something I wanted to be involved in! 

A few weeks later I was sent these two little beauties from Miracle Bump to try out and have been using them since. They were even featured in my recent faves post a while back here. They are designed with pregnant bellies in mind and claim to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy.

What they say:

'Our rich & velvety skin care range is designed to nourish and protect your skin during and post pregnancy. We have carefully designed the 'Miracle Bump Method' to ensure you know how to use our products to gain the best possible results. Our Mission is to Keep your body beautiful.'

The packaging of the samples I were sent are lovely and I couldn't wait to get started using them. I popped on the oil and balm immediately and was pleasantly surprised by the scent - white chocolate! - or at least that's what it smelt like to me anyway. I was in love at first smell! T

he consistency of the oil was divine, not too thick, or too thin and didn't leave a greasy film on my stomach either - in fact it felt almost dry oil like to me. I then slapped on the balm too and was immediately surprised by how thick and indulgent the consistency of the product was.

I have found that the balm worked best when warmed in the palm on my hand first and then applied in sweeping motions to the areas I wanted to. In the beginning I used both of these products mixed together and applied them to my thighs, hips, bump and boobs but since then I've changed to using the oil on my boobs only and the balm to my bump and hips and that's simply because I'm being stingy as its running out lol.

The company ethics are to be admired and believe in only using the best ingredients possible and most importantly the purest. These products are fab for sensitive skins as they don't contain any nasties and therefore great for most pregnant woman as many will find their skin is more sensitive than usual. 

I have been known to suffer here and there with eczema and can say this didn't irritate it or worsen it, if anything I found it soothing and the balm worked well as a barrier cream between my skin and clothes too.

Did it work at preventing stretch marks I hear you ask? Well the honest answer is I don't know, I've used these and other products religiously from the beginning of my pregnancy so it would be hard to say what has worked and what hasn't however I would say I am impressed with the quality of the products, and purity of the products so would recommend them to any pregnant lady out there. The balm is thicker than any other cream I have used during pregnancy and a little really does go a long way. They are pricey products but you can't put a price on beautiful skin I guess lol.

Winter Edit: Perfect A/W Flat Boots

Hiya Girlies, Hope your all well and starting to indulge in the Autumn weather!? Cosy knits and layers anyone!? I'm really excited about the weather turning colder as it was getting harder and harder to dress my bump - there was only so many maxi dresses I could wear!

Seeing as I can't indulge in the Autumn Winter styles I'd like since I'm pregnant - boo! So instead I have been obsessing over Boots! Mainly flat styles as I don't want to be wobbling all over with this extra weight in front of me. Oh yes its very glamorous being pregnant in Winter! Anyway here are a few of my favourite styles this season...

Topshop AUGUST Classic Chelsea Boots £60 - Here

These boots will look gorgeous this season with some skinny Jeans for everyday cool! Pair with this season's must have - The Pink Coat! You really cant go wrong with these little ankle boots.

Oasis Sophie Leather Riding Boot £85.00 - Here

I love the suede panelling on these boots - you can also get the same boots without the suede - they are so classic and would go with so many outfits. Very versatile and in my own opinion they look a lot more expensive than their £85.00 price tag.

Topshop ARRIVA Heavy Chealsea Boot £62.00 - Here

Love these boots! You can also get these boots in Black however I'm kind of in love with these Oxblood ones - perfect colour and can see myself wearing these loads if I was to get them. Want!

River Island Black Zip Trim Biker Boots £45.00 - Here

These Boots look fab on and at such an affordable price too. They will really add to any outfit and would look great with skinny jeans, leggings, skirts and dresses. These are definitely a good buy!

ZARA Flat Leather Boot £99.00 - Here

I ended up going to ZARA for some boots this season and while I was in there I then saw about a million that I then wanted too - typical! And these are on my want list. I love the deep chocolate colour and think they would look really lovely over Christmas - Sorry to say the C word but it's not actually that far away lol! There is also a gorgeous heeled pair of boots in ZARA that I've fallen for but think flats are the way to go for now. 

 

Tory Birch Kiernan Riding Boot £430 - Here

They might be pricey but these are so worth it. Perfection in a boot I'd say. They would no doubt see you through to future seasons and the quality is fantastic too. I have had Tory Birch boots and shoes in the past and I can say they are extremely comfy and the quality were second to none. These are on my want list for sure.

London Fashion Week SS14: Burberry Prorsum

For me the Burberry Prosurm Show was the highlight of London Fashion Week Spring Summer 2014. The show was so very me and as extravagant as some of the pieces were I can completely see myself making them my own. A Burberry Trench has been on the top of my wishlist for a long time and so I look forward each year to see what twist has been put on the forever classic.

Christopher Bailey has gone all girly with the pretty pastels and cute details, yet the cuts ensure the looks are more grown up than little girl. Check out the detailing on the embroidered trench! What a beaut.

A bit of FROW there for you

The Makeup Look



The inspiration behind the look was 'English Rose' which to me sums up the overall look of the girls brilliantly. Obviously Burberry Beauty was used to create the stunning looks.

Eyes - to recreate this look you need the new Pink Rose eye quad lightly washed over the lids and also below. Mac and Nars would also have complimentary eye shadows that would suit this look. I would also recommend Tom Ford and YSL.

Face - To get the youthful, glowing complexion Burberry Fresh Glow Golden Radiance was lightly applied to the models faces. Apply in areas that need more coverage and for an extra glow mix with a liquid highlighter. MAC Strobe Cream would also work perfectly for this look mixed with MAC face and body. Cheeks were flushed with Earthy Blush by Burberry - a suits all kind of shade. 

Lips - Lips were left in their natural state - if you like adding a subtle nude colour would set this look off perfectly. Something like MAC Freckletone would also work for this look. I would add a nude lip liner to blend the look together. 

To bring together the whole look ensure you add pastel coloured nails from pinks, yellows and violets.

Oh my goodness I adore these!! I'm currently doing a full review of these two beauts but so far so good! When I've finished them a full review will be available. But I'm really enjoying using these and the smell is out of this world!

L'oreal 3 in 1 purifying Micellar Solution

£4.99

I've been using this for a while now although I have gone through it quite quickly it has to be said and its really lovely. I prefer it to most of the other solutions I have used I only use these every now and again as no matter what people say they will never give you a proper deep clean like a 'proper' cleanser would. But I got this on offer in Superdrug for about £3 so you really can't complain for the price. If you fancy trying this just wait until it goes on offer as I always see it in Boots and Superdrug on some kind of offer.

Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil

450mls £59.00 

This one I have had for ages but only just got round to using quite recently and to be honest I don't know what took me so long!? I am in love it's so quick and easy and I can't imagine not using it now. I pop on 2 pumps of oil all over my dry face and then ad water and hey presto make up free face. This one is a keeper and I would recommend for those of you who find removing make up a chore. I have the 'green one' which is good for most skin types and anyone looking for an anti-oxidant cleanser.

Neal's Yard Remedies Mothers Balm

£19.75

This is one thing I really love it's a little greasy but great for massage! I can imagine this will be a godsend when that itchy belly syndrome kicks in. The thick waxy consistency is really comforting on the bump, and I tend to slather this all over my thighs, bum, bump and boobs. I plan on doing a full review of this item shortly, maybe after pregnancy.

Nars Blusher in Luster

£21.50

I love all nars blushers so they can't put a foot wrong with me to be honest! But this is one on the blushers that I've been reaching for loads recently I usually layer it with an illamasqua blusher as it adds a gorgeous sheen. This is a versatile number and Im sure i'll continue to use this loads in the colder months to add some warmth to my cheeks.

MAC Amplified Lipstick in Up The Amp

I'm a huge lipstick fan in general and find I have a lot of MAC Lipsticks. Up The Amp is a perfect Autumn shade and is a good shade for so many skintones, so if you're yet to dip your toes into the berry hues of lipstick then this is a good place to start.

Illamasqua Lipstick in Shard

As I've said before I am a massive fan of Illamasqua and their products and this colour is just perfect for the season! Its so rich and pigmented, and can't think that anyone wouldn't love it! I find that Illamasqua lipsticks are very long lasting, most are a matte finish which may contribute to their longevity however they are not overly drying considering the finish. This colour is part of their 'sacred hour' collection also.

Hope everyone is doing well? I'm just enjoying a lazy day today before a full weekend of work... Oh the joy! But only 2 more weeks until I break up for my maternity leave, can't believe how quick its coming around. I'm also going to be popping up a pregnancy update soon too!
